Megan Creasy, Drafting CAD Technology 2010-2011

I am Megan Creasy, and I’m a senior at Mifflinburg Area High School. I also attend SUN Area Technical Institute and I am enrolled in the Drafting CAD program. There are two sections in the drafting program, mechanical and architectural.

In my eleventh grade year, I took two marking periods of drafting and I only did mechanical drawings; therefore, I am more interested in mechanical. I am taking mechanical which consists of sketching prototypes and machine parts while architectural focuses more on blueprints for houses and buildings.

I have volunteered to join Skills USA and am working with a precision machining student; together we make a team called the AMT (Automated Manufacturing Team). I will be drawing the part on CAD, and my team member will post process and convert the file to be made on the CNC machine.

One of the projects we’ve done was helping to design a pavilion for SUN Tech. Other students in drafting and our teacher have also done projects for the community and our school. One student has helped revise welding drawings, another revised a house plan for carpentry, also a student designed dugouts in the Selinsgrove area, and our teacher is helping revise emergency exits in our building.

I plan to further my education in drafting at Pennsylvania College of Technology (PCT) for mechanical drafting.  Along with attending Penn Tech for college, I am also earning nine college credits while I am at SUN Tech through PC Now. PC Now is a program where students at SUN Tech can earn 3.0-15.0 credits towards PCT at a reduced cost of $20 a credit. This year it was paid by SUN Area Technical Institute.
