SUN Tech Cosmetology instructor Crystal Gutshall was recently awarded the “Excellence in Education Award” for the month of November. She was nominated for the award by SUN Area Technical Director Dennis Hain. The award was presented by the Business and Education Committee of the Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Gutshall has been the cosmetology teacher at SUN Area Technical Institute for more than 20 years. She has trained hundreds of students that have excelled in the cosmetology field.  Each year she has several students advanced to state and national SkillsUSA competitions. Last year she had 2 silver medalists at the national competition.

In addition to her outstanding teaching skills, she also devotes many hours serving as one of the SkillsUSA advisors at SUN Tech. In 2009 Crystal was named the Pennsylvania Advisor of the Year. In 2010, she was recognized as the Region 1 Advisor of the Year. She was named the National SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year at the 2010 national convention.
