Brynne M. Clawser, Costmetology 2010-2011

Welcome to SUN Tech Cosmetology. My name is Brynne, and I’ll be your stylist today. If you’d like to follow me I’ll get us started!

If you take a walk around our classroom, the flow of objects that catch your eye is endless. Colors, sounds, smells, and smiles are always present here. We are the SUN Tech Cosmetology class of 2011 and we are here because we’ve dedicated ourselves to building a career out of what we learn from our skilled instructor, Mrs. Gutshall, who recently won the National Skills USA Advisor of the Year Award. Mrs. Gutshall has trained many successful people in her previous classes, the works of whom are often on display to be admired. One style from a previous class that truly stands out is the hairstyle on display by Katie Heimbach, from the class of 2010. Katie placed second in the Skills USA Nationals Competition in the Cosmetology division. Just a week after she graduated from SUN Tech, Katie landed a job at the BonTon salon where she continues to practice her craft and develop as a professional. It’s this kind of success that inspires us, the class of 2011, to work hard, as we’ve been doing since June.

A normal day in our cosmetology class is very busy. In one corner of the room, you may see Ashley transforming me in to a genie with fantasy makeup. Turn around and you’ll probably get a smile from Cara, who is going to compete in the nails portion of the Skills USA competition. If you find yourself in awe of an incredibly beautiful hairstyle being formed, you’ll have met our cosmetology competitor, Lasha. You’ll hear speeches by Gabby and Alyssa, and see any number of the other Cosmetology girls practicing their skills on manikins. Of course, we can’t forget Mrs. Gutshall who is there overseeing and guiding us amidst all the hustle and bustle. And if you think all of that sounds busy, you should stop in on a Thursday or Friday when we run our clinic! It is during those Thursday and Friday sessions as we provide our salon services to the public that we learn the importance of having quality skills, knowledge, communication skills, and the value of providing great customer service.

The cosmetology profession doesn’t seem to garner a lot of respect from the general public, but we here in the SUN Tech Cosmetology class know the kind of hard work it takes to be successful in this field. We have met and listened to many successful local cosmetologists through job shadow experiences, as guest speakers, and active members of our local advisory board. These people emulate what we are determined to become once we step out into the world to work in our chosen field. Come visit or schedule an appointment with us, and we’ll show you what we can do, even while we’re still learning. Someday, I’m sure you’ll see each one of us living successfully in our chosen careers, being the best that we can be.
