Shawn Moyer, Computer and Networking Technology 2010-2011

My name is Shawn Moyer and I am a senior from Midd-West High School.

Computers, and how do they work? This is a question I’m sure many of you can’t truly answer. That is why I decided to pursue my interest in this area at SUN Tech in the Computer & Networking Technology program.  I made my decision to come to Tech for two main reasons: I knew it would benefit me in the future when I went to pursue my career and post-secondary education and secondly, is because of my pure interest in computers.

The great thing about being enrolled in the Computer Networking and Technology course is that it doesn’t limit you to just one aspect of computers. We study a wide array of programs, devices, and techniques that all ensure the integrity, safety, and functionality of computers used in many different settings. Subjects we cover in class include Microsoft Office, A+ Computer Maintenance, Computer Networking, Network Administration, Windows 2008 Server, and Webpage Development. We also have a chance to be certified in C-Tech Copper and Fiber-Optic Network Cabling.

Students here are also given the opportunity to participate in the 2+2+2 program with Bloomsburg University in their Computer Forensics course. You are also given the opportunity to dual-enroll with Penn College and take some of their courses offered in the program with PCNow, which is something I’m taking advantage of.

In the future, I would like to actually attend Penn College and major in Information Assurance and Security. By coming here to SUN Tech, I believe I am well on track to accomplishing my goal.
