Matt Brooks, Criminal Justice 2010-2011

I am Matt Brooks from Mifflinburg Area High School. Making the decision to come to SUN was not a hard one at all. When I was given the opportunity to go to SUN Tech, I took it because I saw it as a chance to get out of the main school and get a head start on my career. The hardest part about tech was deciding which class to take; I eventually decided to take Police, Corrections & Security Sciences (PCSS).

After my year here at SUN, I am planning on going to college to further my education and major in criminal justice. Coming into the class I was already extremely interested in police work and my family has a background in the field as well. I have grown up around this job field and have decided this is where I want to direct my life.

In the PCSS class, we have written papers, done hands-on training in everything from hand cuffing to directing traffic, many crime scene skills and even learned how to debate. We have also learned how to take finger prints and get them off of different surfaces.

At the end of the year we will be going to Washington DC to see the dedication of the Police Officer Memorial. We have done many fund raisers throughout the year so far but it will all be worth it when we are in DC.

The PCSS class has opened my eyes very wide on what this occupation will entail. This job has been one that I have wanted to do for a long time and one I will strive to accomplish. The Criminal Justice class is giving me the head start I need and is making my decision to go into police work even more concrete.
